Chip Prokop is the managing principal of Dominion’s California and North Carolina operations. Mr. Prokop specializes in litigation management including the development of accurate and defensible settlement positions for insurance support and environmental consulting projects. He also provides damage evaluations and negotiation guidance for national multi-million dollar, multi-site projects and cost-cap policy support. Mr. Prokop is a registered Professional Engineer (Arizona/Oregon), a Diplomate Environmental Engineer, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, and a Registered Environmental Assessor I.
In addition, Mr. Prokop is a Certified Microbial Remediation Supervisor (CMRS), providing mold/indoor air quality investigations, remediation oversight, and final clearance testing services to a wide range of clients from commercial building owners, public agencies, school districts, and hospitals to homeowners.
Mr. Prokop’s credits include providing consulting services on a declaratory relief action against a large electronics manufacturer that involved evaluation of nationwide multi-site environmental damages, review of industry and discovery-generated information, and consultation with legal counsel and client to develop a pro rata damage allocation that produced an accurate and defensible settlement position for complete buyback negotiations and a $6 million reduction in the client’s reserve estimate fund. He also provided environmental consultation for a large dry cleaner insurance claim involving the remediation of a 1/2-mile groundwater contaminant plume using the introduction of new remedial technologies and recommendation to perform a feasibility study to facilitate a $3 million savings in cleanup costs.
During his 22-year career, Mr. Prokop has worked as an environmental professional in the chemical, industrial, and insurance industries. He worked as an on-staff environmental consultant for a major national insurance company, providing damage evaluation and remediation planning, and facilitating negotiations with state and federal agencies and between plaintiffs and insurers. He served as on-staff consultant for a national hazardous waste recycling firm, supervising cleanup programs for over 50 RCRA facilities in 12 western states and Canada, facilitating state-by-state negotiations and designing and implementing remediation actions. He has developed and evaluated remediation activities for constituents of concern such as pesticides, organic compounds, petroleum hydrocarbons, and metals.
Mr. Prokop is available to speak on a range of issues from how to develop a technically defensible position for insurance negotiations to the prevention and remediation of indoor air quality problems.
Mr. Prokop received his B.S. degree in Engineering at the University of Maryland, in College Park, Maryland, in 1980. He is a member of the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management and the American Indoor Air Quality Council.
